We all know safety is priority number one, but how exactly do you keep yourself and everyone around safe from diseases? When working in the food service industry microbials are often a main concern. Bacteria and other microorganisms are major disease carriers so to protect ourselves and others from getting sick we use antimicrobials. What is exactly is an antimicrobial? Antimicrobials are products that kill or slow the spread of microorganisms.

Antimicrobials play a huge role in the safety of our kitchens but there are a lot of ways to keep your space clean in addition to antimicrobials. Here are ACE’s tips to keep your kitchen clean.

  1. Wash hands
  2. Keep cutting boards clean
  3. Replace and wash dish towels regularly
  4. Wear a proper uniform- know when to use gloves, goggles, etc.
  5. Read labels when handling chemicals
  6. Wash all produce with vegetable wash or something like it (not just water)
  7. Stay up to date on outbreaks and contaminations to know if your shipments are safe
